As Black History Month comes to a close, I thought I would highlight some books coming out later this year, all by black authors.
I actually just finished On the Come Up over the weekend and it blew me away. I don’t know why I’m surprised, Angie Thomas is an absolute beast. The Care and Feeding of Ravenously Hungry Girls and Queenie are both adult titles that add some variety to my reading. Opposite of Always is getting A LOT of buzz online. I’m usually not into anything other than straight contemporary, but I think the sprinkle of magical realism that is in the synopsis seems fun and different.
Tiffany D. Jackson’s books are usually mysteries, I’m excited to read something from her that is much different. I can’t believe I’m going to have to wait until the end of July for I Wanna Be Where You Are by Kristina Forrest. I’ve said this a million times, but any book that even hints to anything having to do with dance, especially ballet, I’M IN. Brandy Colbert as become an auto-buy author for me and the cover for The Revolution of Birdie Randolph is badass. Another killer cover is Dear Haiti, Love Alaine. Gorgeous!
