With a twist!
This is a book tag created by LizzieLovesBooks on YouTube, but found this over at Fi’s Bibliofiles. I struggle a lot with book tags because I have only read a few different genres and I rarely deviate. Favorite series? Don’t have one that’s not Harry Potter. OTP? Almost every book I read has romance or is romance-adjacent—that’s a lot of couples to keep on track.
As I was reading this tag, the prompts started to work really well with Disney movies. So just like I did with most assignments in college, I’m focusing everything on my favorite subject: DISNEY! I might do more than one answer for each question, but I promise not to go overboard. Pixar will also be included.
ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.
The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favorite stand alone?
If I disregarded all the movies that had straight-to-video sequels, there would be nothing left. My favorite of all time has always been The Lion King. It was the first movie I ever saw in theaters and has just always held a special place in my heart. Other faves that may not be your usual picks: The Aristocats, Hercules, A Goofy Movie.
ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.
Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?
Animal OTP: Simba and Nala; Human OTP: Rapunzel and Flynn Ryder
ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.
In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?
Okay, hear me out: I have always loved the Aladdin sequels. I feel like most people haven’t watched them—or even knew they existed. Are they peak Disney excellence? Not even close. However, we do get Aladdin/Jasmine wedding.
ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.
Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favorite series?
Toy Story, full stop. I was really nervous when they announced Toy Story 4 because I think the ending of Toy Story 3 was near perfection. I still think that, but I loved what they did with the next installment. Bo Peep was always one of my favorites and her relationship with Woody was something I really missed. And these guys managed to create a character like Forky and make him charming and funny , and not extremely annoying.
ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.
One ring to rule them all! Who is your favorite Villain/Antagonist?
This is so hard! This has changed so much over the years. As I got older, I started to understand the actions of villains like Ursula, who was just holding up the terms of her contract. Hades never fails to make me laugh. I also have this strange love for the evil stepsisters, Anastasia and Drizella, and the wicked stepmother Lady Tremaine.
ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.
Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favorite world/world-building?
Th world of Zootopia is absolute brilliance. Just look at the different districts: Savanna Central, Tundratown, Little Rodentria, Sahara Square, ect. It’s all so genius. There are so many little easter eggs, you see something new with every rewatch. More people need to see this movie.
ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.
Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favorite animal sidekick?
It is really easy for an animal sidekick to be very annoying, so I normally enjoy silent sidekicks like Pascal from Tangled or Rajah from Aladdin. However, I do make an exception for the mice from Cinderella—Jaq, Gus Gus, Suzy, the whole gang!
ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.
Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?
I mean, obviously Ratatouille. Although Tiana’s beignets and the grey stuff do look delicious, as well.
ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.
Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favorite kickass female lead?
Okay, this is probably one of the hardest questions to ask me. The Disney ladies are very precious to me. Princess-wise, Jasmine has always been my all-time favorite since childhood, but Belle has become the girl I most identify with as I got older. As for kickass abilities, I think Mulan takes the cake, but Rapunzel and Anna hold their own for being two girls who spent most of their lives locked up.
ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.
How about your favorite leading lad?
While I think Prince Eric is probably the dreamiest of all the leading men—that black hair, those blue eyes!—but I love Flynn Ryder. His attitude, his character growth, his humor—I love him!
ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.
What is your favorite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)
Ughhh this is close to impossible! As a whole, my favorite movie soundtracks are Hercules, A Goofy Movie, and Tarzan. There are tons of wonderful songs from the princess movies that I love, but “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from The Lion King is MY song.
ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING.
Drum roll please…what is your favorite read of this year?
Because this year has been lacking in the Disney department, I’m going to do “favorite of the last five years.” Okay, I’m split between two: Moana and Frozen II. Moana is absolutely beautiful and I love it the more times I watch it. Plus, music from Lin-Manuel Miranda. Frozen II was also stunning and hit me square in the feels—I cried so hard. Kristen Bell deserved more recognition for her voiceover work in this movie.
A little unconventional, but this was fun! I hope you guys enjoyed this and I welcome you to either do the original tag, or my little remix.
