April Movie/TV Wrap Up
TV:

Pam and Tommy – ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Jerrod Carmichael: Rothaniel – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our Flag Means Death – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Minx – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Heartstopper – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Dropout – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Severance – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jake Johnson back on my screen? In authentic 70’s clothes? SIGN ME UP! But really, Minx was a really fun period show following the first porn magazine made for women. I’m so glad it was just announced that it’s getting a second season. I’m a massive fan of Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series Heartstopper, so when I heard it was going to be a show for Netflix, I thought it would be absolutely perfect—and it was. Pure, sweet gay joy. Our Flag Meets Death was ridiculous and hilarious and I can’t wait to see where they go with it. Amanda Seyfried was absolutely incredible as Elizabeth Holmes in The Dropout—completely transforming herself in the role of the disgraced CEO. I just wished we had seen more of the trial and aftermath. Severance was probably my favorite thing I watched last month. I didn’t know if it would be too sci-fi for me, but I was such a fan of Adam Scott that I gave it a shot. I was immediately hooked on this dystopian drama, I watched it all in a day. If you could surgically divide your memories of your work and home lives? It’s such a crazy moral concept. I still can’t stop thinking about it—especially that ending! The second season needs to happen sooner rather than later.
Movies:

Turning Red – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Windfall – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
White Hot: The Rise and Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch – ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hooray for new Pixar! Turning Red was really wonderful take on a mother/daughter relationship and how it develops as they grow older—especially through the tricky time of adolescence and puberty. Throw in some early 00’s time period, a teen boy band, and a giant red panda, you get a magically cathartic story that any age can enjoy. Now that it’s been two years since the start of the pandemic, different productions are starting to be released that have been made during this time. Windfall was clearly one of them—four person cast set in a one remote location. It was a fine movie. I always love seeing Jason Segel and Jesse Plemons and Lily Collins were great as well. I wish it had more promotion and didn’t get buried on Netflix. After watching The Dropout, I had to watch the documentary that started it all. The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley was really fascinating, but like the show, I wanted more of the aftermath and the trial.
