The Mid-Year Book Freak Out

I can’t believe I’m actually getting this done on time!

Best book you’ve read so far in 2022

I mean, of course it is.

Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2022

Heartstopper Vol. 4 by Alice Oseman. I never want this graphic novel series to end. I also read Family of Liars, the prequel to E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars—one of my all time favorite YA novels.

New release you haven’t read yet, but want to

Most anticipated release for the second half of the year

Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. New TJR? I’m there!

Biggest Disappointment

Year on Fire by Julie Buxbaum and Conversations with Friends by Sally Rooney

I gave both of these books three stars, so I’m not saying they were awful books. However, I’m such fans of their other books, that I was disappointed I didn’t enjoy them more—especially Conversations with Friends.

Biggest Surprise

With Love from London by Sarah Jio and Love and Other Great Expectations by Becky Dean

I went into both of these books with zero expectations, having not heard of either author. I thought they would be average romances, but I was pleasantly surprised! Both books involve an American traveling to England and having experiences that changed their lives.

Favorite New Author (Debut or New To You)

Natalia Sylvester isn’t a debut author but her newest release, Breathe and Count Back from Ten, was a heartfelt story with wonderful disability representation.

Newest Fictional Crush

Fox from Hook, Line, and Sinker by Tessa Bailey. Funny, into music, and just an all around good guy!

Newest Favorite Character

I really loved Eva from Seven Days in June by Tia Williams. Maybe because I felt a kinship with her in regards to chronic headaches but I just found her to be so strong and compelling with everything she had gone through in life.

Book that made you cry

Full Flight by Ashley Schumacher had me bawling my eyes out, just like her debut last year. I think I’m just going to have to accept that when it comes to her books.

Book that made you happy

Phoebe Robinson, what a queen!

The most beautiful book you’ve bought so far this year (or received)

Over the last few years, I’ve been collecting different copies of The Bell Jar and Little Women. So I’m guessing the prettiest book I’ve bought so far this year must be a copy of one of those two books.

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

All my arcs for the rest of the year—and do the reviews…

Favorite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen this year?

I just started The Summer I Turned Pretty and it’s been pretty good so far…

Can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds!
