Jan/Feb Movie and TV Wrap Up

So this is a combination of January and February—a lot shorter list than you would think. I find myself watching a lot of podcasts on YouTube instead of movies or bingeing shows. I have been trying to watch most of the Oscar nominated movies and I’ll hopefully finish that in March.

TV:

Jenny Slate: Seasoned Professional ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

She is so much fun to watch. I just adore her.

Movies:

The Iron Claw – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
American Fiction – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Mean Girls – ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Self Reliance – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Poor Things – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
All of Us Strangers – ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

The Iron Claw should have had some nominations during this award season. Incredible performances from Jeremy Allen White and Zac Efron. I went into the movie with no knowledge of the famous wrestling family, the Von Erichs, but their story was so heartbreaking, there was no way you could sit through that movie without shedding tears. American Fiction was a perfect movie—so funny, but still sentimental, timely, and so well executed. I loved it. I have probably seen the originally Mean Girls movie over 200 times—I know that movie beat for beat. When watching this remake of the stage show, I recognized every line from the original, every joke that was modernized, and every nod or cameo. The music was great—except for our main actress. They should have hired someone who could sing her songs, not change the tempo and key to fit her voice, or lack thereof. Thank God for the supporting cast and excellent choreography from the King, Mr. Kyle Hanagami. Self Reliance was my man Jake Johnson’s directorial debut and it was a lot of fun. Poor Things was weird, innovate, and mind boggling. The worlds Yorgos Lanthimos creates are beautifully odd and so much fun to explore. Emma Stone was fantastic and Mark Ruffalo was terrifying. All of Us Strangers was slow, quiet, and absolutely devastating. The cast of four actors were all incredible, but Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal were *chef’s kiss*
